Capulana tote bag are made in Mozambique using the traditional Capulana cloth. The Capulana tote bag is lined with an up-cycled rice bag. This unique bag is ideal for daily use, shopping, sport or to be used as a beach bag. The Capulana bag project evolved from a love for the colorful fabric and a desire to create sustainable employment. Each bag is hand made in the rural community of Tofo, Mozambique.
Capulana cloth dates back to the 15th century and forms an integral part of daily life in many African countries. The cloth is sold in large precut pieces which are used by locals for all their daily needs, be it a baby carrier, skirt, towel, etc.
